Shared Vs Dedicated Hosting
As an independent director of Linux, sometimes my clients ask me “what is best shared or dedicated?”. The answer to this question depends on many factors, most of which are specific to the client. In short, what is better for a client can not be better for another client. In this short article I will compare these two types of popular reception, and show the advantages and disadvantages of both types of accommodation.
Shared hosting is now widely used by many sites and some good reasons. A shared hosting provider, is a provider that hosts your website and several other sites, all on the same IP address. This IP address is shared among all sites on the server, which can be a big problem. Most blacklist today search engines or ban the IP addresses of servers or malicious misconduct, not domain names. This means that if another site hosted on the same server, and is harmful or distribute spam that your site could be blacklisted as well. With dedicated hosting, do not worry about the same subject. Often, you can assign multiple IP addresses for your dedicated server, which will appear to search engines like Google as separate servers.
Besides security issues, shared hosting, servers tend to be the slowest form of accommodation. It is about logistics, if you share the same connection between several hundred web sites, there will be a performance hit. Also, if a CGI script or PHP you misspell the other owner of the website on the same server, you can decrease the performance of your website. However, with a dedicated server, the server has direct access to the Internet gateway of the host and is not shared with other sites. In addition to this, your server will also have the burden of job you get, if you just use some CGI or PHP scripts, the server works perfectly fast.
The main advantage of running your own server is that you are responsible for security updates and maintenance, and backups. I do not remember how many times a vendor has released an update (which went horribly wrong), and restored the server without having to contact the customer. In many cases the customer should contact the provider to ask what happened before offering himself admitted any mistakes. Implementation of this responsibility in the hands you can ensure that all updates are installed and the system backups religiously followed.
